Peru & Machu Picchu
The only way to see most of the Nazca lines is from an airplane. This bird design may be pointing to a water source; or it may represent a constellation of stars. The lines are tentatively dated to 200BC. They may be ancestral to the Inca system of lines radiating from Cusco with shrines along the way. During times of calamity high priests visited all the shrines offering sacrifices - usually llamas, but sometimes human children.
