Peru & Machu Picchu
The Pampa de Anta is at about 12,000'. The winter wheat harvest is mostly completed, allowing the bright red soil to show through. Wheat is alternated with barley in the winter. In this view you can see how abruptly the plateau drops off down to the Urubamba Valley in front of the mountains. The clouds have been heavy in the direction of Machu Picchu We found out later that hikers that day had gotten quite wet. We were really lucky - no rain, no wind.
