Peru & Machu Picchu
The Sun Temple at Machu Picchu overlooks the Urubamba Valley below. During certain times of year the rays of the sun shine directly through the little window onto the "sundial" rock. The stone masonry of the walls of the temple is exquisite. It is possible that Machu Picchu was built and used for only 80 to 100 years, then abandoned before the conquest. Its existance was a carefully kept secret until 1914.
