Laguna de Santa Rosa
Tamarisk is an invasive weed. Tamarisk trees were introduced into the US from Eurasia, for erosion control. They quickly spread all along our western rivers, crowding out the willows and other native plants. They are able to limit competition from other plants by taking up salt from deep ground water, accumulating it in their leaves, and depositing it in the surface soil where it builds up concentrations temporarily harmful to other plants.
