Blue-footed Booby Brooding 2 Eggs on her Feet This Blue-footed Booby is protecting 2 eggs with her feet because she doesn't have a brooding patch (bare skin to warm the egg). An abandoned egg will overheat in a matter of minutes in the sun, or chill in the wind. The eggs hatch in about 41 days, but  the chicks need to stay on their parents feet for a month because they cannot control their body temperature. Both parents take turns incubating eggs and feeding chicks. North Seymour Island.
