Iglesia de Santo Domingo Iglesia de Santo Domingo in Old Town is one of Quito's oldest churches, constructed between 1583 and 1650. It was rebuilt in 1883. In front, the famous statue of Marshall Mariscal Sucre is pointing to a hillside across the valley where he won the decisive battle for independence from Spain on 5-24-1822. He fought the Battle of Pichincha under the command of Simón Bolívar.
