Sea Cucumber (Isostichopus fuscus) will develop into spines. It is
an echinoderm related to sea stars and urchins. It called Pepiņo or little chili
pepper in Spanish.
The Slate Pencil Urchin (Eucidaris thouarsii) at the bottom left eats coral. As usual with urchins, the spines are tipped with poisonous barbs. This urchin is very hardy and can migrate to a wide range of depths to find food. Academy Bay. Santa Cruz Island.
