Espanola Marine Iguanas in Breeding Season Espanola has the most colorful Marine Iguanas with blotches of coppery green and red. The red pigment comes from a seaweed that blooms during the summer months during the mating season. Territorial fights among males can last for 5 hours and include head bobbing, charging, locking heads, pushing and shoving. The loser is either driven away or shows submission by flattening down on his belly. Punta Suarez, Espanola Island.
