Puncture Weed or Goat's Head Puncture Weed (Tribulus cistiodes) has nasty spines and is originally from Africa. The hard seed pod is a food for the medium ground finches. The seeds of puncture vine are often disbursed by rubber tires and now grow along the runways of every temperate airport in the world. In North America it is being reduced by introducing a weevil that feeds its seeds. But, now the beetle is attacking summer poppies. Gardiner Bay, Espanola Island.
