The Spectacled Caiman got its name from the bony ridge above its eyes. Like all crocodiles its nostrils and eyes are placed high on its head so that it can float submerged, but with a good view. They have a keen sense of smell and the muscles in their tail are strong enough to give them a quick launch. Mating takes place amidst lots of roaring and thrashing. Once the babies hatch the mother carries them in her mouth back to the river.
