Costa Rica
Volcán Arenal is inland of Monteverde. It was erupting and spilling bus sized lava boulders down its east face while we were there. We stayed at the Tabacón Hot Springs Lodge and had a great view of the lava all night through our sliding glass door. It had been erupting on its west face, but in 1998 the cone collapsed and the activity is now on the Tabacón side. Many people in that town were killed during an eruption on 1968. The hot springs are unique and quite delightful too.
