The Thommanon is a small temple just outside the East Gate to Angkor Thom. It was built at about the same time as Angkor Wat and is nicely restored, although its twin nearby was nearly demolished by jungle growth. The tower at Thommanon is built in the shape of a lotus. The guard here offered to sell us an antiquities officer badge. The guards help reduce vandalism and theft, however, when they are not paid regularly, they often make money by selling artifacts or badges.
