Apsaras - Temple Dancers

Celestial temple dancers, Apsaras, are a favorite theme of the Khmer stone carvers. The apsaras here at Bayon are not as finely carved as those at Angkor Wat. It is the task of apsaras to dance, sing and otherwise entertain the God-Kings. The costumes of the apsaras, particularly their head-dresses and hairstyles are very elaborate. Of the 17500 apsaras at Angkor Wat, no two are alike.
