BEP Mushrooms

The top side of this Gilled Polypore (Lenzites betulina) looks very much like a Turkey Tail - but a peek underneath will prove to you that it is not. It is a shelf fungus that can grow into rosettes or rows, and it has concentric zones of various colors. (The green zone in this specimen is caused by the presence of algae.) It is usually found on hardwoods rather than conifers. To keep you on your toes, they often grow together with Turkey Tails and False Turkey Tails.
