Bohemia Ecological Preserve

Donkey Ears fungus grows on the ground under hardwoods and conifers. They are a sub-group of Cup Fungi that are curled, contorted and lopsided. The inside is the fertile surface that often turns dark as it ages. Sometimes large numbers of them are found in a cluster. The leaf litter underneath holds the mycelium that connect it to the roots of a nearby tree, a process that is probably beneficial to both.
