Water Striders are true bugs and have a mouthpart evolved for piercing and sucking - and they can walk on water. Their body, legs and feet are covered by water-repellant microscopic hairpiles that prevent drops from weighing down their body. In this photo, the water is magnifying the micro-hairs on their long feet that keep them from sinking. Each pair of legs is specialized differently for spreading their weight, steering and propelling. Gerridae Family.
