Bohemia Ecological Preserve

Kellogg's Yampa is a native in the carrot family that looks a lot like grass until the white umbel of flowers opens. Yampa was a favorite food of Native Americans who roasted the peanut-like roots that taste kind of like water chestnuts. Its delicate white flowers bloom in the summer and are a favorite with the Anise Swallowtail butterfly. The red stem distinguishes it from Queen Ann's Lace.
