Bohemia Ecological Preserve

The throat of the dainty Musk Monkeyflower is covered with hairs - and the stigma deep inside is ready to close and snatch some pollen from an unsuspecting insect. If it captures some pollen, it will not open again. Mimulus are called monkey-flowers because some species like this one have flowers shaped like a monkey's face. Mimulus is the primary food of some butterflies and moths, such as the Mouse Moth (Amphipyra tragopoginis).
