Bohemia Ecological Preserve

This Banded Argiope, an orb weaver, is hiding in plain sight, well camouflaged if you are looking down. When she captures her prey, she will wrap it in silk and inject venom to kill it and dissolve its insides. Argiopes are not dangerous to people & pets, and are quite beneficial because they catch and eat many insect pests. Adult male Argiopes are much smaller and do not spin webs, but wander searching for a mate - a dangerous quest since the female will eat him if she gets the chance.
