Bohemia Ecological Preserve

The Farewell-to-Spring pops out in this field of Yellow Hayfield Tarweed. There are 2 subspecies of this flower at Bohemia, and they are very difficult to tell apart. Both have cup-shaped flowers with 4 petals, but the red spot is optional. Each flower has 8 stamens and a white pistil with 4 lobes. Its native distribution ranges from southern British Columbia west of the Cascades south to the coast of central California.
