Bohemia Ecological Preserve

The Bull Thistle flowerhead is a composite of all-disk flowers above a vase-shaped set of phyllaries. The stem is winged along its full length. It is an invasive non-native and can be controlled by pulling or mowing during the 1st year while the leaves are still a rosette. (Only 4% will re-sprout.) During the 2nd year the plant will bolt and produce plants with multiple flowerheads. Each flowerhead contains hundreds of seeds.
