Bohemia Ecological Preserve

The Pineapple Weed flowerhead is all disk-flowers, no ray-flowers. The flowers exude a chamomile/pineapple aroma when crushed - and rubbing it on the skin will repel insects temporarily. It was formerly named Chamomilla suavolens. Most surprising is that it is now called a native, but wasn't in the past! It is considered ruderal, a plant that is first to colonize highly disturbed areas. What is that purple plant in the background? Aster Family
