Prickly Lettuce leaves are very long, deeply lobed and have prickles all along the edges, as well as along the central vein on the underside. The top of the leaf has a white vein down the middle. The leaves release white latex when cut. It is known as the Compass Plant because in the sun the upper leaves twist around to hold their margins upright. A non-native in the Aster Family.
