Bohemia Ecological Preserve

This Sargent Cypress twig is bright with this year's yellow male pollen cones. The stem-hugging scaly leaves are dull, dusty green to grayish green with scattered resin blisters. The leaves are different on young plants - the scales are more pointed and don't hug the stem so closely. Sargent Cypress only grows on serpentenite soils and barrens - which is widespread in this unusual habitat.
