Bohemia Ecological Preserve

The Serpentine Soils at Bohemia consist of a jumble of various rock types in a matrix of grey-green slatey mudstone and siltstone that erodes easily. Here the rocks were ground up rather than polished. The bedrock here is called the Franciscan Complex, created when this area was a subduction zone. This area is now in s strike-slip zone. The San Andreas Fault is off shore only about 10 miles west as the crow flies.
